Hitchhikers Guide 42
Af Gjensen.

This coin is of very special interest to me. I (gjensen) am the person who got the idea for this coin, and it was designed to my specifications by Jamie of Madhatters Neverland. I left the production and sale of the coin to Hogwildstuff. Originally I only intended a round coin to be made, but Steve of Hogwildstuff got the idea for a shaped coin. I then worked with Jamie on that as well. We ended up with the whole coin being in the shape of the number 42, with the ring.

The coin celebrates the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series of books by Douglas Adams. To understand the coin you must either have read the books or the summary found at e.g. Wikipedia.org.

One side features the words "don't panic" in "large, friendly letters" on a background of stars. It also has the green creature which appears on several of the book covers, sticking his tongue out.

The other side has the text "The meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything" on the blue ring, and the number 42. If you have read the books, you'll know that "42" is, indeed, the answer to the Great Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. (If you haven't, then I am afraid it is too complicated to explain here, but please do read the Wikipedia article). The blue ring surrounding the number is Jamie's idea. I like it because it somehow suggest infinity. The digital font of the number is my idea. I choose it to somehow suggest the calculated nature of the answer.

An additional feature of the coin is that the stars glow in the dark. The coin comes in a round type, as well as in this shaped type. Each type is available in a "gold" and "silver" version. The "gold" version also has glitter in the black paint, creating a very interesting effect. This is the "silver" version of the shaped coin.
